The PRHP, funded by AusAID, aimed to strengthen the capacity of governments, non-government organisations (NGOs) and communities, by promoting the necessary linkages to develop effective and sustainable responses to HIV/AIDS. IDSS, Aurecon’s International Development Assistance company, was the lead contractor, in association with the Burnet Institute, and was responsible for the achievement of all project milestones, a role which included the management and support of in-country personnel, procurement and liaison with AusAID and the Pacific Islands partner governments.
Through the PRHP, IDSS provided technical assistance to plan, implement and evaluate multi-sectoral national HIV/AIDS strategies and local prevention and control activities. It also provided funding support to implement national strategies through a trust fund for the 14 Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs).
PRHP employed a collaborative approach, working in partnership with the Secretariat of the Pacific Community, which is responsible for coordinating the regional HIV strategy across all 22 PICTs. IDSS worked collaboratively with the stakeholders from PICTs regional and multilateral organisations to deliver effective and coherent regional and national responses.
